Between 2025 and 2028, Wheatley Homes South is spending £39.1 million across the region to make homes warmer, drier and more cost-effective for tenants.

The spending would see new kitchens brought into 1600 homes and almost 300 new front or back doors introduced into homes in Dumfries and Galloway.

The initiative will also see 150 new electric heating systems and over 300 new gas boilers introduced into homes.

Stranraer-based Mark Hamilton is one of Wheatley’s customers who has recently had a new kitchen installed.

Hamilton said: “My new kitchen looks nice and fresh and is good to work in. It’s an improvement on the old one.

“There is more space, and more drawers, and it feels fresher, with modern flooring, finishes and handles. The work was good, as was the fit and finish of the kitchen.”

Hamilton added: “I’m pleased to see this investment in my home and other investment going into the local area.”

The move has been influenced by tenants, who requested greater investment in homes and enhancements to make them more energy-efficient.
