Netherholm Hall in Castlemilk run by Thenue Communities – part of Thenue Housing – runs a popular STEaM Club which stands for (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics).

Now it has managed to secure two new experienced “coding tutors” to its already-packed roster of learning opportunities and events.

Two professional developers Paul Lagah and Craig Thomson have come on board to provide beginner-friendly classes for children and young adults in the Netherholm area where Thenue has many tenants.

Starting with learning the basics of coding, participants learn how to apply this to real world applications culminating in making their very own projects.

Coding is the process of writing step-by-step instructions in a programming language that a computer can understand and execute.

The latest development is a welcome addition to the current range of activities which are led by individual tutors in “Early Years Craft”, Science, Design and 3D Printing Technology.

The Netherholm STEaM Club is organised by the Netherholm Area Association which led the campaign to create a neighbourhood hub for this area of Castlemilk.

It was a mammoth community effort and the hall is widely used and great valued by the community. The club is supported by the Linn Area Partnership, Thenue’s own Community Regeneration Team and many valued local volunteers. It has been open for eight years.

Taking the lead in running the club is husband and wife team Joan and Frank Soutar who devote many hours of their own time to ensure it success.

A spokesperson for Thenue said: “Investing in and encouraging the younger generation to get involved in such activities has never been more important in an increasingly technical world.

“Ensuring these classes help support children and young adults in shaping their own futures is vital and it also opens the doors to whatever career paths they may choose.

“Netherholm Hall is the ideal venue right in the heart of the Netherholm community and it goes without saying that has been a remarkable success since it opened in 2018.”
