The changes were brought forward as part of a wider move to adopt the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations Model Rules 2020, while retaining a number of Thenue-specific provisions. The Model Rules are used widely across the housing sector and are endorsed by both the Scottish Housing Regulator and the Financial Conduct Authority.

A spokesperson for Thenue said members had attended the meeting to consider whether the Association should adopt the updated rules and to vote on a Special Resolution. The Board had unanimously recommended the changes, which were intended to make the rules clearer, reflect current good practice, and give the Board greater flexibility to retain skills and experience among its members.

The spokesperson confirmed that although a clear majority of members backed the proposal, Thenue’s rules require a 75 per cent majority for any rule change to be approved. As the vote did not reach this threshold, the proposal was not passed, and the Association’s existing rules remain in place.

“Although a clear majority of Members supported the proposal, the Association’s Rules require a 75 per cent majority for any rule changed to be approved. The proposal did not achieve the required threshold meaning Thenue’s existing Rules will remain in place.”
