Two council housing projects in Arbroath recommended for approval
Angus Council planners have recommended approval for two significant housing developments in Arbroath, representing a combined investment of £13 million and the creation of more than 60 new homes.
The first project involves the £7 million redevelopment of the former St Thomas RC Primary School site on Seaton Road, which closed five years ago.
Plans propose 35 homes, including:
- 20 one-bedroom flats
- 8 three-bedroom terraced houses
- 2 two-bedroom terraced houses
- 4 wheelchair-accessible cottages
- 1 four-bedroom cottage
Four letters of representation were submitted, raising concerns over traffic, parking, road safety, and the maintenance of open space. Planning officers, however, concluded the scheme would meet identified housing needs and provide a good living environment without significantly affecting existing residents.
The second project, valued at £6m, is earmarked for Newton Crescent, where four-storey housing blocks were demolished two years ago.
The proposal includes 32 homes:
- 7 one-bed garden flats
- 7 one-bed first-floor flats
- 6 two-bed terraced houses
- 4 three-bed terraced houses
- 1 four-bed cottage
- 1 five-bed house
- 6 wheelchair-accessible homes
Seven letters of representation were received, with objections focusing on parking provision, loss of green space, and privacy.
In response, the council confirmed the inclusion of 32 parking spaces within the development. Planning officers have recommended approval, with councillors expected to consider the application at a development standards committee this week.
