Up to 25 jobs at risk at Scotia Homes as sector faces 'significant challenges'

Ellon-based housebuilder Scotia Homes has announced plans to cut up to 25 jobs, citing “significant challenges” within the housebuilding sector.

With a current workforce of 168, the job losses will predominantly affect head office staff rather than tradespeople.

This follows a challenging financial period for the company. Accounts for the year ending June 2024 revealed a pre-tax loss of £2.5 million and a 6% fall in turnover to £50.7m.

During that same period, the company’s workforce was reduced from 196 to 181, making this the second time in two years that the firm has announced redundancies.

Joint managing director Richard Begbie stated that the decision was not taken lightly but was a “proactive step” to ensure the continued strength of the business.

He told The Press and Journal: “Scotia Homes remains dedicated to delivering quality homes and building vibrant communities, and these changes will help position us for future growth and continued success in a rapidly evolving market.”
