Urban land reform under the spotlight at ScotLand Futures Panel

The Scottish Land Commission is hosting a free online panel event on Thursday 28 August at 4pm to explore the role of urban land in tackling some of Scotland’s biggest challenges including affordable housing and economic inequality.
Part of the Commission’s ScotLand Futures initiative, the session will focus on what urban land reform means in practice and what needs to change to make it work better for communities in Scotland’s towns and cities.
This event is aimed at people with a professional or active interest in urban land – including planners, policymakers, community organisations, developers, housing practitioners, researchers, and land reform advocates.
The panel brings together leading voices from policy, research, and practice:
- Dr Carey Doyle, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC)
- Hanna Wheatley, Future Economy Scotland
- Euan Leitch, Scotland’s Regeneration Forum (SURF)
The panel will share real-life examples and new ideas, with plenty of time for questions and discussion from the audience.
The session is part of the wider ScotLand Futures initiative – a nationwide conversation about how Scotland’s land should be owned, used, and managed in the years ahead.
The Commission is currently encouraging responses to the ScotLand Futures survey, open until Saturday 6 September which invites the public to share views on the future of land in Scotland.
Calum MacLeod, commissioner at the Scottish Land Commission, said: “Urban land reform is a vital part of creating a fairer, greener Scotland and we want to hear a wide range of views. This panel is a chance for people to hear from those working at the cutting edge of land policy and action, and to bring their own experiences and questions to the table.”
The event will take place on Thursday 28 August at 4pm and is free to attend. Register via Eventbrite, or visit the Scottish Land Commission’s website for more information.
