Video: NBM spotlights apprentice quantity surveyors on live projects
Glasgow-based NBM Construction Cost Consultants is marking Scottish Apprenticeship Week by highlighting the contribution its Quantity Surveying apprentices make to live developments across Scotland.
The firm has released a short site-based video featuring its current apprentices, offering insight into what it is like to combine university study with hands-on experience in the construction industry.
Filmed on an active residential development in the west of Scotland, the video shows apprentices taking part in site inspections, reviewing drawings, assisting with cost reporting and engaging with contractor teams, reflecting the breadth of responsibility they are given early in their careers.
NBM’s apprentices are enrolled in quantity surveying degree programmes while working within the business, gaining exposure to cost planning, procurement, valuations and commercial management on real projects.
Scott Bradshaw, director at NBM, said: “Scottish Apprenticeship Week is an opportunity to recognise the value apprentices bring to our industry. At NBM, our apprentices are fully integrated into project teams from day one. They gain practical experience on live developments while developing the technical and commercial skills required to build long-term careers in construction.”
The consultancy works across a number of sectors including education, industrial, residential, commercial and hospitality throughout the UK, providing cost consultancy and commercial management services.
The featured apprentices describe the role as offering variety, responsibility and direct involvement in project delivery, combining time in the office with regular site visits.
One apprentice commented: “The best part of the role is seeing projects develop from early cost planning stages through to completion. Being able to study and apply what we learn on live projects makes a huge difference.”
Scottish Apprenticeship Week runs from March 2– 6, celebrating the impact of apprenticeships across the country and promoting career pathways within key industries, including construction.
NBM said it remains committed to supporting early career development and strengthening the future skills pipeline within the built environment sector.
