Views sought on Simplified Planning Zones for Argyll and Bute

Residents are being invited to find out more information and submit their views over plans to introduce Simplified Planning Zones (SPZ) in Argyll and Bute.

Argyll and Bute Council is proposing to implement SPZs at Salen on Mull and in Lochgilphead.

The initiative would allow certain homes to be built without the need to apply for traditional planning consent, making the process faster and much easier for people thinking about building their own home.

Anyone interested are now being invited to attend information and feedback-gathering events next month at the following locations:

  • An Roth Community Enterprise Centre at Craignure, Isle of Mull, on Tuesday, 05 June. It will run as a drop-in event, starting at 2pm and running through to 7.30pm. Scheduled presentation will take place at 3pm and 6pm
  • Lochgilphead Community Centre from 1pm to 6.30pm, with presentations scheduled for 2pm and 5.30pm, on Wednesday, 06 June.
  • David Kinniburgh, the council’s policy lead for planning and regulatory services, said: “The idea behind the Simplified Planning Zones is to remove obstacles for people who want to build custom or self-build homes. There will be a lot of great information available at these events and I would encourage everyone with an interest to attend and find out more about the proposals.”
