Tea was served this week at Abbeyfield Scotland as a series of afternoon tea events supported by CGC got under way.

The development for older people based in Giffnock held a tea party after winning funding from CGC in its ‘Afternoon Tea with CGC’ initiative.

A series of afternoon teas will now take place at housing associations across Scotland thanks to CGC’s support.

The aim is to fight isolation and loneliness and to bring people together as part of CGC’s ongoing support of communities.

The occasion at Abbeyfield House had a vintage theme in the style of a traditional afternoon tea and residents and friends were the guests.

Gary Tracey, finance director at CGC, who attended the occasion, said: “Well done to Abbeyfield Scotland for making the event such a success. CGC was honoured and delighted to be invited along to see the first afternoon tea in full swing.

“Abbeyfield Scotland is a shining example of an outstanding provider of housing, support and care for those in later life.

“We were particularly pleased to see that Abbeyfield House had linked up with Contact the Elderly – an inspiring organisation which does tremendous work organising afternoon teas.”

Supported by a network of volunteers, Contact the Elderly organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people aged 75 and over, who live alone, offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.

Carolynn Malone, service manager at Abbeyfield Scotland, added: “At Abbeyfield we want to bring people together for company and conversation and there’s no better way to do this than sharing a cake and a cup of tea! We are very grateful to CGC for their support and to Gary Tracey for joining us at the house this week.”

Further CGC-funded Afternoon Tea events are getting under way with two scheduled for Maryhill next week.
