Older tenants in Castlemilk have been bowled over by a new indoor activity that’s bringing fun and friendship to their community.

Residents at Dougrie Terrace are enjoying carpet bowls twice a week as part of Wheatley Care’s Livingwell service.

Livingwell, run by Wheatley Care, part of Wheatley, helps people aged 55 and over live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

The service offers a wide range of activities designed to keep tenants active, connected and feeling their best.

Indoor bowling was introduced in November and has proved so popular that regular competitions are now taking place.

Marie Blake, 70, who has lived at Dougrie Terrace for 11 years, said: “I love it. It’s good fun and a good laugh. We cheer each other on. I’d never played carpet bowls before, but I tried it and I loved it. It’s great exercise too – I’d encourage anyone to give it a go.”

Another tenant, Beth Howitt, 87, agrees. She said: “There’s a knack to doing it, but I’ve yet to find it! I enjoy it anyway.”

Louise Dunlop, managing director of Wheatley Care, added: “It’s fantastic to hear our Livingwell tenants are getting so much enjoyment from carpet bowls.

“It’s a game for all ages and abilities – one of the bowlers is registered blind – and it’s a brilliant way to stay active and connected. This is just one of the many activities Livingwell offers to help tenants make friends, keep fit and support their mental health and wellbeing.”
