Wheatley community clean-up picks up pace in Edinburgh

Communities in Edinburgh and across the country are cleaner and greener thanks to an environmental week of action.

Teams from Wheatley Group were joined by customers, community groups, nurseries and schools for the week of action, which took place in Wheatley communities in the east, west and south of the country from 24-28 July.

Tenants of Wheatley Homes East joined forces with staff from the Neighbourhood Environmental Teams at Macgill Drive in the Muirhouse area of the capital.

The volunteers and staff collected two vans full of waste. Discarded furniture, which was in good condition, was donated to Four Square, an Edinburgh charity which supports people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Since January 2023, Wheatley’s NETs in the east has collected 950 tonnes of waste across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.

Wheatley Group director of housing and property management, Hazel Young, said: “We want our communities to be great places to live and areas where people are proud to call home.

“The Environmental Week of Action is a fantastic opportunity to keep our communities clean and highlight the great work carried out by NETs.

“It’s also a chance to get our customers involved and to inspire people to think about recycling and sustainability.”

The week of action from Wheatley Group is part of its Greener Home, Greener Lives campaign.
