Wheatley Group's Seonad Hoy to step down as she becomes Scottish Greens councillor for Hillhead ward

Seonad Hoy is to step down from her role as community benefits officer at Wheatley Group as she was elected to represent the Hillhead ward in Glasgow.

The win means Hoy has become the second Scottish Greens councillor in the area after the votes were counted in the by-election on Thursday night.

The by-election was triggered following the death of Labour councillor Hanzala Malik, who served as Hillhead ward’s representative for over 20 years, the National reports.

Ms Hoy said she was looking forward to representing Hillhead alongside Martha Wardrop – her fellow Scottish Greens councillor.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been elected to represent the people of Hillhead alongside the marvellous Martha Wardrop.

“This was a real team effort from the Glasgow Greens. Every single one of our activists worked to make this happen and I can’t thank them all enough.

“But now the hard work really begins. I look forward to bringing that same energy and enthusiasm that saw the Greens win our first ever by-election to my role as councillor in Hillhead.”
