A community football club in Castlemilk is celebrating after receiving funding for new strips.
Barlia Football Club has received funding with support from Wheatley Homes Glasgow’s customer engagement team helping children and young people to take part in football without families facing additional costs.
The club, which supports hundreds of local families and has strong links to the Castlemilk community, provides opportunities for young people to develop their skills and build confidence while staying active.
Stuart Cameron, who chairs the club, said: “The funding means the world to us. We are incredibly appreciative of all our funders, and especially organisations like Wheatley that genuinely care about the community.
“We want to make sure young people have access to the best facilities and equipment possible without having to charge families an arm and a leg. Support like this helps us give players the tools they need to flourish both on and off the pitch.”
The club has a proud history of supporting local talent, with many players progressing through grassroots football and going on to play at higher levels of the game.
Some of the club’s former players include former Scotland internationals Eddie and Frank Gray, Charlie Miller, Andy McLaren and Ikechi Anya.
Wheatley Homes Glasgow’s Stronger Voices team visited the club and saw first-hand the positive impact it has on young people and families across Castlemilk.
Aisling Mylrea, managing director of Wheatley Homes Glasgow, said: “Many of the young people who use the club are children of Wheatley customers, so it’s fantastic to be able to support an organisation that plays such an important role in the local community.
“The club provides a safe, welcoming environment where young people can develop skills, make friends and stay active. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with the club in the future.”
