Whiteinch Centre hosts heart-warming seniors’ Christmas lunch

The Whiteinch Centre (TWC) was delighted to welcome more than 35 older community members and tenants to its much-loved annual Seniors’ Christmas Lunch, a festive celebration filled with warmth, good food, music and community spirit.

Hosted by The Whiteinch Centre and generously funded by Whiteinch & Scotstoun Housing Association (WSHA), the event brought together people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds to enjoy what Christmas is truly about - connection, joy and the simple pleasure of sharing time together.

This year’s celebration featured a talented live singer performing classic Christmas favourites, creating an atmosphere that encouraged guests to laugh, sing and even take to the dancefloor.

One attendee shared with emotion how special this was for her as she said: “I haven’t danced with my husband in years”, a simple reminder of the powerful role these community gatherings can play in rekindling cherished moments.

Guests were served a delicious three-course Christmas meal provided by The Courtyard Pantry, followed by the giving of Christmas gifts provided by WSHA. Many spoke about the joy of the day, with one person commenting on what a “lovely day” it had been, praising the “great food, amazing singer and a chance to have a dance”.

Another guest reflected on the atmosphere in the room, saying it was “amazing to see so many people with smiles on their faces, relaxing and enjoying the music and a chance to catch up with friends”.

The event, staffed by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers from both TWC and WSHA, was not only uplifting but carried an important purpose. Christmas can be a challenging time for older people who may experience isolation or loneliness. This annual lunch offers an opportunity to bring people together, strengthen community bonds and break bread together - a simple act of unity, kindness and shared Christmas spirit.

Lee Raeside, community projects co-ordinator at The Whiteinch Centre, said of the day: “Events like this are special. That warm, uplifting feeling you get from helping and serving people in your own community is what Christmas is all about. Being part of this day really shows the positive impact TWC & WSHA can have on the lives of tenants and local people.”

Angela Molloy, community services officer at WSHA, shared her feelings on the day: “I was absolutely buzzing at the atmosphere in the room. The energy, the laughter, and the smiles on people’s faces were incredible. It’s great to see WSHA continuing to be so community-oriented and a real force for good in the lives of our tenants and the local community. Events like this show just how powerful it is when we come together to support one another.”
