Winchburgh Developments triumphs at 2025 WhatHouse? Awards

The lead developer behind the growing town of Winchburgh has triumphed for the second year running at a prestigious UK property awards.

Winchburgh Developments Ltd (WDL) claimed bronze in both the Best Regeneration Scheme and Best Mixed-Use Development categories at the 2025 WhatHouse? Awards, held at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel on Park Lane in London.

The awards celebrate the very best in placemaking, new homes, design and sustainability from across the length and breadth of the UK. The award was presented to the team by TV presenter Gabby Logan in front of 1,300 industry professionals at a glittering gala lunch.

Judges from the awards travelled to Winchburgh earlier this year to tour the village, meet members of the community, and learn more about the infrastructure-first approach to development in the West Lothian town, whose population is projected to grow from 4000 to 14,000 in the next ten years.

John Hamilton, CEO of WDL, said: “The success of any placemaking project relies on the support of the local community and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in Winchburgh for their ongoing support in making all these works possible.

“It is an honour to have been recognised in two categories of such a prestigious UK award ceremony. It’s important to occasionally reflect on the work you’re carrying out, and these awards are validation for our efforts, as well as testament to the hard work of our valued contractors and the team here at Winchburgh Developments.”

Last year, WDL was named the recipient of the Silver Award in the Placemaking category of the renowned What House? Awards in London. Also in 2024, WDL was crowned Property Company of the Year at the Scottish Property Awards, which aim to shine a spotlight on the greatest achievements in the built environment across Scotland.

Judges recognised WDL for its ongoing investment in the area and the significant development milestones it has achieved over the last 12 months with its “infrastructure-first” approach to community planning.

These include a direct link to the M9 motorway, a vast greenspace (Auldcathie Park) running through the heart of the town, a state-of-the-art school campus, Scotland’s newest marina (connected to the Union Canal), attracting a big-name supermarket (Sainsbury’s) to the emerging town centre and, most recently, gaining planning permission for a railway station at Winchburgh on the main Edinburgh to Glasgow line.
