Work continues to deliver council homes in West Calder

Progress continues to be made on increasing the availability of social housing in the West Calder area.

Springfield Partnerships, is working on the delivery of 69 new affordable homes for West Lothian Council at their Mossend site in West Calder.

The development will feature a mixture of homes, ranging from 1-2-bedroom apartments, 2-5-bedroom houses and 1-3-bedroom bungalows.

The homes meet the Scottish Silver Standard for Sustainability.

Sustainable measures include a water butt to collect rain water which can be used to water grass and plants and wastewater heat recovery system which works to warm the incoming mains water, reducing the strain on the boiler and the energy required to heat water up to temperature.

With work anticipated to complete later this year, the site at Mossend will add towards the council’s target of delivering 3000 affordable homes across West Lothian from 2012-2022.

Executive councillor for service for the community, George Paul, said: “The affordable housing programme has seen West Lothian Council working successfully with Registered Social Landlords, housing developers and other partners on increasing social housing across the county. This site at West Calder is just one of many currently in development across West Lothian. I look forward to seeing the development upon competition and the benefits it will bring to the area and for prospective social housing tenants.”

Tom Leggeat, Springfield Partnerships managing director, added: “These homes are highly energy efficient which is better for the environment and will help reduce running costs for residents. It’s widely documented that there is a shortage of quality affordable housing across Scotland, and we’re proud to work with Councils and Housing Associations to address this.”
