WSHA welcomes first tenants to new homes in Doonfoot

West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) has announced the completion of its final six-unit development at Greenan Phase 4 in South Ayrshire, providing high demand family homes for social rent to the community.

The six properties, which range from two to four-bedroom terraced houses, are WSHA’s fourth and final phase of affordable housing within the larger mixed-tenure development of Greenan Views. These six final phase homes were constructed with partners CALA Homes with an investment of £1.1 million.

Phase 4 completes WSHA’s programme within the overall masterplan which has provided a total of 123 properties for social rent (25% of the properties in the development). This represents an investment of £18.2m over ten years, funded by the Scottish Government Housing Association grant and WSHA private finance.

Addressing the established need for family homes, WSHA has a range of property types in the area including terraces, semi-detached houses, cottage flats and wheelchair-adapted homes.

Andrew Kubski, director of development & asset management at WSHA, said: “We are very proud to have completed our 10-year development activity in this new and vibrant community of South Ayrshire. The final six properties have been constructed to a really high standard by Cala and provide energy efficient homes for our delighted tenants.

“Over the last five years we have completed 194 units in South Ayrshire including developments in Symington and Earl’s Green and this has been delivered through a strong working relationship with South Ayrshire Council and the Scottish Government as well as our construction partners.”

Completed on 12th December 2023, the first tenants of the phase four homes received their keys in mid-December and are now in residence.

Of their new home, tenant Cheral Gardiner said: “Our new house is so much bigger than our previous one, we had been living in a two bed property with five boys so it is now great to have all the extra space. Our new house is very warm and has amazing views. We love the area and the move to our new house has changed our lives”.

WSHA’s properties in Greenan Views were completed in four phases, with partners Mactaggart and Mickel for phases one to three, and Cala Homes for phase four over a period of 10 years.

Housing minister Paul McLennan added: “We want everyone to have a safe, warm affordable home that meets their needs. The Scottish Government has invested almost £10 million to help deliver affordable homes at Greenan Views, helping to meet the housing needs of people in South Ayrshire.

“By working closely together, West of Scotland Housing Association, the developers Mactaggart & Mickel and Cala Homes, and South Ayrshire Council have delivered high quality and energy efficient homes that will meet the needs of the South Ayrshire community for generations to come.”

These homes, which are built to the highest standards, are helping us deliver on our commitment to provide 135 new affordable homes for rent each year. We continue to work with our partners to deliver on our housing priorities.”
