Hoarding for housing professionals

Who is it for and what is it about?

This course is for housing staff who work directly with tenants or those that visit tenanted properties and may encounter someone who they think displays signs of hoarding behaviour.

Delegates will consider at the concept of hoarding, what defines it, what may lead to someone engaging in hoarding behaviour and what interventions can be used to alleviate the impact of it on the individual, housing staff, emergency staff and the community.

Learning Outcomes:

    • Understand the definition of hoarding disorder and where it fits within adult support and protection legislation and guidance
    • Understand the main causes of hoarding disorder and the profile of those that engage in this behaviour
    • Understand risk assessment of properties where there are hoarding issues
    • Understand the nature of multi-agency interventions and the role of professional judgment in intervening to protect the adult concerned where appropriate
