The Scottish Government has been urged to “act now” to prevent “disastrous consequences” for private tenants after the current cap on rents comes to an end next month.

The Scottish Government has pledged to provide “every possible support” for those impacted by the collapse of Stewart Milne Group (SMG) while a union has threatened to take legal action against the company.

More than 200 craft workers employed by West Lothian Council are being balloted on strike action in a dispute over money owed under the terms of a collective agreement covering the workforce.

Unite the Union has confirmed that strike action by over 300 trades workers at Dundee City Council will go ahead today. All-out strike action is set to begin on 4 April for three weeks until 28 April, and then it will be followed by rounds of daily action until 23 June.

Workers at social housing landlord Magenta Living are to take extensive strike action over fears that new working practices will expose them to asbestos. More than 500 workers at the housing charity Shelter will stage a two-week strike next month over a dispute regarding pay. The workers, who are based across the UK, have accused the organisation’s management of attempting to impose a real terms pay cut on its staff.
