Contractor appointed for final phase of Muirton development
The work, which forms the final phase of the Muirton Park regeneration scheme, will take place on the site adjacent to the former St Johnstone FC football ground.
The project will bring over £25 million investment to Muirton Park, including £11m from Caledonia Housing Association, £6m of which will come from grant funding from the Scottish Government.
In this final phase 203 homes will be built of which 101 will be for sale, and 102 will be affordable homes for Caledonia Housing Association and Fairfield Housing Co-operative. The project will start on site in spring 2016 with completion of the affordable homes scheduled for the end of 2018 and the private homes by summer 2019.
Phase 1 of the project was completed in 2007, with the second stage completed two years later, phase 3 finishing in 2011 and phase 4 being completed in April 2013.
Julie Cosgrove, chief executive of Caledonia Housing Association, said: “The appointment of Urban Union as developer partner is an important milestone in progressing the final phase of the Muirton regeneration. Having personally worked on the project since 2004 it is pleasing to see how the area has transformed with a high demand for homes. Credit goes to the continual enthusiasm of the Muirton Community and the ongoing commitment of Perth and Kinross Council complimenting the hard work and investment by Fairfield and Caledonia.”
Councillor Dave Doogan, Perth and Kinross Council’s convener of housing and health, added: “As a council we are very pleased at this significant step forward in the regeneration of the Muirton area. Residents are at the heart of the proposals, and the overall aim is to improve the quality of life of those living in the area and build upon the outstanding community characteristics of Muirton.
“The regeneration of Muirton offers us a unique opportunity to provide additional social housing, incorporating a mix of tenures in a safe and sustainable neighbourhood. The appointment of Urban Union represents the culmination of many years and millions of pounds of investment in Muirton and the end result will not just be a great benefit to tenants and residents but the whole City of Perth.”

Extensive community consultation will commence on Wednesday 16th December 2015 from 10am to 7pm at North Inch Community Campus where local residents and members of the public will have the opportunity to view the proposals for the final phase and provide comment on the design and layout of the new homes.
