McGill & Co’s housing division follows parent company into administration

The new housing project in Dundee is in doubt after developer McGill Homes followed its parent company into administration.

The housing division of McGill & Co Limited, was placed into administration last week, days after administrators were appointed to the main company, making 374 of the company’s 429 employees redundant with immediate effect.

The move means the future of a housing development on Fairmuir Road remains uncertain.

Dundee City Council granted planning permission to demolish disused factory buildings and construct two detached and six semi-detached homes in May 2018.

The housing application had been submitted to the local authority by KDM Architects on behalf of McGill Homes.

William Duncan Business Recovery has been appointed as the administrator.

Senior insolvency administrator Martin McGrellis said: “We are still gathering information from the directors, they have 11 days to give notification.

“Once we have the statement of affairs, which lists the assets and liabilities, a notification could be put out for interested parties to purchase the development.”

He added: “We understand one plot of land was previously purchased on Fairmuir Road and there were plans to build homes on it.

“After the value is assessed, we’ll be able to find out if there is any value for creditors.”
