Aberdeen Law Project secures four-figure payout in Housing Tribunal

Callum Leeson and Eilidh Forrest

The Aberdeen Law Project (ALP) has successfully secured a four-figure sum for a group of clients in a tenancy deposit dispute in the Housing Tribunal, the latest success for the representation team in a series of victories for tenants in the city.

Advisers Callum Leeson and Eilidh Forrest represented a group of seven clients whose tenancy deposit was wrongly retained by their landlord.

The team at ALP applied to the First-Tier Housing Tribunal for Scotland on behalf of the clients and successfully argued that the landlord had no right to retain the majority of the deposit. This resulted in a four-figure sum being returned to the clients.

The clients said: “We would like to thank you all for the excellent and professional service you and the team gave us over the past year and a half. We appreciate it was an extremely lengthy and difficult project to handle but your strong support got us through with a great outcome.”

Mr Leeson said: “This was a very demanding case from start to finish. Navigating a number of tribunal hearings with multiple clients and such a complex issue put to test everything I have learned during my time in the representation team.

“Although challenging, it was incredibly rewarding and we as a team are delighted to deliver such a positive result for the clients.”

Ms Forrest said: “When I was appointed this case and conducted the initial meeting with the clients and Callum, I knew straight away this was something the representation team could assist with.

“As this was a complicated case it was incredibly rewarding to get such a positive result for the clients. I am grateful that I can play my part in helping the community of Aberdeen.”

ALP assists in a range of landlord disputes, such as rent issues, deposit retention, surcharges, claims for damages, enforcement of notice periods and unfair eviction.
