Accreditation success and client increase at Dundee’s Citizens Advice Bureau
Dundee Citizens Advice Bureau has seen growing demand for its services, with a 29% rise in the amount of clients over the last three years and it has also achieved the best possible outcome in an audit for an accreditation.
In 2025, the Bureau supported more than 4,600 people, largely with welfare benefits, money and debt, and housing. The charity also supports people with employment, consumer rights, energy advice, NHS complaints, immigration and a variety of other legal issues.
The Bureau has solved nearly 30,000 individual issues and gained almost £5.4 million in financial gains for clients, over the last three years.
The charity has also achieved top marks through an accreditation scheme.
Based in the Wellgate with drop-in sessions across the city, including libraries, foodbanks and the University of Dundee, the independent charity, is the only organisation in Dundee to hold the highest amount of accreditation in all three of its specialist advice services: housing, money and debt, and welfare benefits.
The Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers (SNSIAP) accreditation, which organisations choose to undertake on a voluntary basis, is led by the Scottish Legal Aid Board on behalf of the Scottish Government.
The accreditation confirms that an organisation’s advice is accurate, safe and that it caters to clients’ needs, while recognising its dedication to providing services to the best professional standards.
The Bureau underwent expert peer reviews, as part of the assessment, as well as a holistic organisational audit examining employee training, quality assurance, policies, procedures and governance.
In the audit, the Bureau reached the highest possible outcome, with full adherence recorded across all indicators. No recommendations for improvement were made.
Claire Christie, chief executive officer at Dundee Citizens Advice Bureau, said, “Whether they’re visiting us in the Wellgate or meeting our teams out in the community, our clients, many of whom are facing crisis situations, deserve the very best service, whatever the issue.
“Our team goes above and beyond to support every person who comes to us, and this accreditation recognises that.”
Christie said: “Every member of the team, from staff to volunteers, has played a part in achieving this.”
