ACHA increases number of homes at proposed Dalintober redevelopment

Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) has submitted a revised planning application for its proposed redevelopment at Dalintober in Campbeltown.
Working with ECD Architects, ACHA wants to demolish five blocks of Category B-listed three-storey Scots Baronial tenement buildings in the Dalintober Housing Estate to make way for new homes.
An application in December 2021, which sought to demolish 46 flats, was granted permission in October 2022, only for the application to be called in by the Scottish Ministers for determination following an objection by Historic Environment Scotland.
Ministers found in favour of the bid for listed building consent, subject to conditions.
The buildings cannot be demolished until planning permission for a new development has been granted. The new application includes plans for 37 dwellings which, if successful, will comprise eight cottage flats, 11 houses, six amenity houses for older people and 12 flatted properties for low cost home ownership. Four of the properties will be wheelchair-accessible and readily adaptable. Previous tenants who moved to facilitate the demolition of the tenements will be given an option to return to one of the new build properties.
The previous planning application was withdrawn to amend the plans for flood prevention measures.
At the same time, Argyll and Bute Council declared a housing emergency, and ACHA used the opportunity to increase the number of units being provided on the site to help with the emergency.
Cathy Grant, chairperson of ACHA’s board of management, said: “The Dalintober project provides a unique and exciting opportunity to develop an exemplary multi-generational solution with community, place-making, and health and well-being at its heart.”
