Fife Council has reached another milestone in its affordable housing programme with the completion of a housing development in Kirkcaldy.

The local authority is currently delivering 2,700 new affordable homes by May 2017.

Cllr Judy Hamilton, executive spokesperson for housing & building services, visited the new development at Rosslyn Gardens to meet new tenants Robert & Samantha Aitchisonto celebrate the achievement.

She said: “It was great to meet with Mr & Mrs Aitchison and to welcome them to their new home. We continue to invest in more warmer, drier, healthier homes and it was hugely rewarding to be here today to see the family settling into their lovely new council house that is just right for their family’s needs.”

The new council houses are on the site of the former sheltered housing complex which was demolished in 2009. There are 27 houses in the development ranging from one bedroomed flats to two and three bedroomed houses and two wheelchair accessible bungalows, built by Fife Council Building Services. Building Services apprentices also worked on the site and had the opportunity to learn key skills to progress their career in construction.

Cllr Hamilton added: “This is a very exciting phase of the affordable housing programme. The first few years, we were identifying opportunities, consulting with communities, developing plans and planning permissions. But now, we are seeing the delivery of fabulous new housing and talking and listening to tenants delighted with their new homes.”
