Creveul Court

Creveul Court has been named as a finalist in the Scottish Home Awards in the Affordable Housing Development of the Year (social rent) category.

The programme recognises excellence in the creation of new homes and place-making across the country with finalists and winners chosen by an independent judging panel.

The 22 homes at Creveul Court have been designed to make independent living easier for tenants with dementia.

Each home has features including glazed doors in kitchen cupboards so the resident can clearly see what is kept inside; traditional hot and cold taps rather than mixers and contrasting colours are used on doors and between walls and floors.

The flats have lift access to upper floors, and each landing has a different colour of flooring and tiling, with each floor clearly numbered for ease of recognition.

A communal garden is available to all tenants with sensory planting, sheltered spaces for gardening and relaxing. Front doors will face into the garden area and be a focal point for the community.

The town centre location of the development also benefits elderly tenants who are able to access local services and public transport more easily.

Councillor Diane Docherty, convener of housing and communities, said: “I am pleased to see that the thought behind the design of Creveul Court and our commitment to dementia designs more widely in West Dunbartonshire is being recognised nationally. These homes are stylish and affordable, and they also make independent living and socialising possible for our elderly tenants with the range of features they offer.”

Councillor Ian Dickson, vice convener of housing and communities, added: “We work very hard to ensure that our new developments cater for a wide variety of tenants and their specific needs, and it is great news that what we offer at Creveul has seen it listed as a finalist in the Affordable Housing Development of the Year.

“This new development is a welcomed improvement in the heart of Alexandria and I know tenants are already enjoying these purpose-built and energy efficient homes right in the centre of the town.”

This year’s awards are being planned as a hybrid event which will combine the format of a digital broadcast, together with the return of the live dinner, scheduled for Thursday 16 September in Glasgow.
