Marchmont family business At Home In Edinburgh has beaten off competition from across the country to be named finalists in the prestigious annual housing industry awards, the Scottish Home Awards.

The independent awards programme celebrates success in the Scottish housing and house-building sector, with the Residential Letting Team of the Year category designed to recognise the importance of the private rental sector. Selection as 2023 Finalists is a significant achievement for the At Home In Edinburgh team of just four, who entered the award for the first time last year – and won.

Now in their 16th year, the awards attract entries from across Scotland; this year more than 140 entries were received over 19 categories. Winners will be announced on 22nd June, at an awards ceremony hosted by Des Clarke, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow.

Colin Cumberland, chair of the Scottish Home Awards judging panel, and head of residential at Ediston Real Estate, commented: “We have spent the last few weeks assessing a large volume of entries and have met as a panel to discuss and agree on the merits of every entry. The finalists announced yesterday should feel very proud to have been selected for this stage as the judging is rigorous and the competition is tough. I would like to thank the judges for their valued contribution, and we all look forward to celebrating in Glasgow in June.”

The Residential Letting Team of the Year award is sponsored by Citylets, Scotland’s certified leading portal for property to rent.

Citylets PR Manager, Gillian Semmler, said: “Citylets is delighted to be sponsoring ‘Residential Letting Team of the Year’ at the Scottish Home Awards for a 6th consecutive year. It’s exceptionally challenging times for the industry and we wish to congratulate At Home in Edinburgh and the additional finalists, for getting through to this stage. We look forward to seeing everyone at this key date in the property industry’s diary.”

At Home In Edinburgh operates from its Marchmont office, led by husband-and-wife directors Rick and Vicky McCann. Their award submission demonstrated how they used their size and agility to their advantage in tackling the challenges of the global cost of living crisis, changes in private rental sector legislation, and limited rental stock.

At Home In Edinburgh director, Rick McCann, said: “We are delighted to be selected as Scottish Home Award finalists for the second year running, and to again be in such prestigious company. The rental property market has experienced considerable challenges over the last few years, driving us to find ways to innovate to support our clients and to keep tenants in their homes. At the same time, we were able to recognise market opportunities, and we’ve been bold enough to seize them – ensuring our continued growth in this competitive sector.”

This second Scottish Home Awards honour follows At Home In Edinburgh’s recognition by allAgents, the UK property industry’s largest customer review website, which awarded the family business the gold award for Best Letting Agent in the City of Edinburgh 2022.

Mr McCann added: “We don’t aim to be Edinburgh’s biggest letting agency, but instead, the friendliest and most efficient, and this is reflected in our drive to always exceed expectations, and in our brand expression ‘believe in a friendly that works’. We are thrilled that this is acknowledged within the industry.”
