Barratt Developments Scotland donates £10,000 to help tackle food poverty in Dundee

Barratt Developments Scotland has donated £10,000 to help provide support for children and adults impacted by food inequality in Dundee.

The much-needed funds will help Dundee Bairns provide nutritious meals for young people, as well as supporting other basic needs.

A third of children in Dundee are living in poverty and thanks to Barratt’s donation the charity can continue to provide basic needs for children in the city, helping them to access food, clothing, activity, and other essentials that they need to thrive.

Genna Millar, project coordinator at Dundee Bairns said: “Dundee Bairns is grateful to Barratt Developments for such a generous donation of £10,000 and we are absolutely delighted to have welcomed David to our base at Dudhope Castle to chat about the work that we do.

“The funding has come along at an especially busy time for Dundee Bairns – we are set to deliver our 7th annual summer Fun and Food programme, delivering meals and funding for activities to over 100 schools and community projects targeting some of the most vulnerable children in the city.”

David Palmer, managing director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes North Scotland, said: “As Scotland’s leading housebuilder, with a national footprint, we’re committed to giving back to the areas in which we build.

“Charities like Dundee Bairns are providing vital support to families and individuals facing food poverty during a period where food prices among costs of other everyday items are increasingly rising.

“We’re pleased to be able to provide some support to help charities continue their life-changing work.”
