Berwickshire Housing Association (BHA) modern apprentice Kathryn Taylor has successfully completed this year’s Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) Apprentice Challenge.

The challenge, which was part of SFHA’s 40th anniversary, took place over two days at the Dunblane Hydro and was devised to showcase young talent within the social housing sector and highlight the need for investing in apprentices.

Over the two days the apprentices were split up into teams and asked to work on a strategy that could help social landlords combat problems such as fuel poverty, social isolation and mental health issues. Each team spent their time researching the subjects and putting together a presentation to showcase their strategy to the conference and judges at the end of the two days.

The challenge allowed Kathryn the chance to meet and chat with sector leaders, learn new skills and build her confidence.

She said: “It was a great experience getting to know other apprentices and meeting people from different housing associations. I was most nervous about the presentation but managed to get up there and speak in front of the conference and judges. The whole experience has grown my confidence.”
