Brindley wins new 2016 Saltire Society Award

The new 2016 ‘Landscape in Housing’ award was presented to Brindley in recognition of the landscape design at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Athletes Village the legacy of which has invigorated Glasgow’s East End by providing over 700 new homes.

This new award celebrates landscape and recognises the important part landscape design plays in housing projects. The new award was presented to Brindley by Housing Minister Kevin Stewart MSP at the recent Saltire Society’s 80th Birthday Housing Design Awards event hosted by journalist and guest judge Kirsty Wark.

The Saltire Society judging panel were impressed by the Athletes Village as a distinctive and sustainable new housing district within Glasgow’s East End. They also praised the rich and varied planting made up of over 70,000 new shrubs; 700 new trees, one for each new home; and the 3.2 hectares of new public open space.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Brindley team managing director Joanne Brindley said: “Brindley are delighted that the Saltire Society has recognised this project as setting a new standard for housing landscapes in Scotland and that it appreciates the importance of the landscape architects’ role in place-making.”

The announcement of this new award comes as Brindley, a West Lothian-based company, confirmed their ongoing commitment to supporting housing developers deliver the new homes needed to meet Scotland’s growing population.
