Right There, a charity dedicated to preventing homelessness, has launched an initiative that will allow people to donate and buy pre-loved furniture, whilst also supporting families and individuals in creating a place to call home.

Furnish Forward will help the charity furnish over 500 homes it provides across Glasgow for people experiencing homelessness, whilst also generating funds for Right There’s work across Scotland, by selling some items in the new Furnish Forward shop.

Right There CEO, Janet Haugh, said: “At Right There, we believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and our Furnish Forward initiative is a really practical way people can help individuals and families achieve this.

“We created this initiative as we want to support people who are experiencing homelessness to have comfortable homes. By collecting and redistributing quality pre-loved furniture - through our programmes like Supported Accommodation or Short-term Housing - we help turn properties into homes, providing dignity and stability to those starting anew. It’s not just about furniture – it’s about creating a space where people can feel safe, relaxed, and truly themselves.

“We quickly realised that the benefits extend beyond that. Furniture that doesn’t go directly into the homes of the people we support will find new life in our lovely shop, with every sale helping to fund our other programmes. And to add to that, the person donating the furniture knows that their items will be loved a little bit longer, whilst helping people at the toughest of times.”

The new Furnish Forward store is located in Unit E2, Rosemount Business Park, 141-145 Charles Street, G21 2QA and members of the public are encouraged to donate pre-loved items including wardrobes, sofas, armchairs, chest of drawers and more to support the initiative.

With inequalities and poverty continuing to grow, Right There will continue its work to prevent people becoming homeless and separated from their loved ones. Thanks to the generous donations received through Furnish Forward, the charity’s programmes will be helping children and adults who are living with the effects of poverty, addiction, or broken relationships, by offering counselling, mentoring and tailored support to those most at risk of social inequality.

The charity is encouraging people to get involved in this initiative as it will ultimately help people feel happier, safer, and more confident to take steps to improve their own lives.
