Charity Spotlight: Launch of ‘cash-first’ in community food settings research: calling all Glasgow-based HAs!

The Scottish Housing News Charity Spotlight feature highlights the vital work of charities across Scotland each Friday. To include your local charity, whether housing-related or not, send your story and images to us at newsdesk@scottishnews.com.

Glasgow Community Food Network has been funded by the Scottish Government to conduct some research into ‘cash-first’ approaches within community food settings. It has commissioned ‘delve’ to complete this work led by Paddy McKenna, a community development collaborator and consultant.

It is conducting a 7-minute survey which you can complete here and is also inviting people for a 1:1 conversation which will take approximately 40 minutes and can be done online or in person: you can indicate in the survey if you are interested in this or you can email if you want to know more.

Please complete by Tuesday the 2nd of April.

More information about the research

We know that community food initiatives and projects work with and support lots of people in Glasgow in many different ways and we’re trying to understand how ‘cash-first’ fits into, or could fit into, the work that you do.

You might be thinking something like, ‘what is cash-first?’ - part of our research is looking at the general understanding of what this means or doesn’t mean to people, so we want to hear from you too!

You may be unsure if what you do is under the umbrella of ‘community food’? If you’re a third-sector organisation based in Glasgow with food or access to food support at any activity/event/project, we want to hear from you.

You may also be thinking that many of the people you work alongside may not be eligible for many cash-first approaches such as those with No Recourse to Public Funds. We recognise the limits in entitlements and support available to these groups and are really keen to hear from your perspective.

By completing this survey, you will contribute to the understanding of and action on food insecurity in Glasgow, so thank you in advance.

If you have any questions on the research, please email paddy@delvecollab.org.
