Charity Spotlight: Football fan who walked across America reveals 'gunshot' scare

Craig Ferguson with Arnold Clark Stars in Cars host Ryan Wilson

Scottish football fan Craig Ferguson has revealed how he thought he was being ‘shot at’ during his epic 3,200-mile walk across America while raising money for charity.

The Paisley man, who captured hearts across Scotland with his Tartan Trek challenge during this year’s World Cup, shared the story during an appearance on Arnold Clark’s popular Stars in Cars social media series.

Speaking to host Ryan Wilson, Craig was asked about the most dangerous situation he encountered while walking from Los Angeles to Boston, which raised over £1 million for Scottish Action on Mental Health (SAMH).

Craig said: “I was walking down the street and someone looked at me really funny and the next thing I know, all I heard was ‘BANG, BANG, BANG’ like gunshots and I ducked down for cover.

“But it turns out the guy was just shooting targets in his garage. He was like, ‘Sorry man, just doing some practice.’

“Don’t practise on me though!”

The light-hearted exchange is one of several epic moments from Craig’s appearance on Stars in Cars, Arnold Clark’s social media series that sees well-known personalities take part in playful challenges and candid conversations while on the road.

Craig became one of Scotland’s most talked-about football fans this summer after completing the 3,200-mile journey across the United States during the World Cup, raising more than £1m for SAMH along the way.

His appearance on Stars in Cars offers viewers a different perspective on the charity fundraiser and Scotland supporter, with Craig sharing stories from the challenge and reflecting on some of its most unforgettable moments.

Craig joins an impressive list of guests who have appeared on Arnold Clark’s Stars in Cars, including Scottish rugby stars Finn Russell and Sione Tuipulotu, Olympic heroes Sir Chris Hoy and Duncan Scott, footballers Alex Iwobi and Erin Cuthbert, and influencer Megan Welsh.

The series continues to give audiences a chance to see a different side to well-known personalities through fun challenges, quick-fire questions and relaxed conversations away from the spotlight.
