Clark Contracts has commenced a major refurbishment of the Category B-listed 250 St Vincent Street in Glasgow on behalf of Union Property Services.

The project involves the comprehensive strip-out, refurbishment, and conversion of the former office building into high-quality, purpose-built student accommodation. On completion, the development will be known as Glasgow Citi View and will provide 140 rooms accommodating up to 142 students.

Each student bedroom will be self-contained, featuring an en-suite shower room along with a kitchenette and dining space. The lower ground, ground, and first floors will deliver a wide range of operational and amenity areas, including a staffed reception, parcel room, student lounge, study and meeting rooms, gym, laundry, storage, and a flexible, bookable kitchen/dining/games space.

The refurbishment also includes external works, such as full replacement of the roof coverings, stonework repairs, and drainage improvements.

Clark Contracts is delivering the scheme alongside a multi-disciplinary design team including FaulknerBrowns, Paragon Construction Consultants, MS Construction Consultants, Summers-Inman, Apex Acoustics, Rybka, Narro and Jensen Hughes. The project is scheduled for completion in time for the 2026/27 academic year.

Centrally located, Glasgow Citi View is within easy reach of both the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University. The development responds directly to the growing demand for student housing in the city centre and contributes to wider urban regeneration efforts.

Raj Sehgal, director at Union Property, said: “This development represents a significant opportunity to bring a long-vacant listed building back into meaningful use. We’re proud to be leading a project that addresses the pressing need for high-quality student accommodation in Glasgow’s city centre, while also contributing to its sustainable regeneration.

“It’s been a highly collaborative process with an exceptional team, and we’re excited to deliver a scheme that both respects the building’s heritage and creates a vibrant new chapter for the site.”

Gerry Cummins, director at Clark Contracts, added: “It is fantastic to be appointed to complete this project with Union Property Services to create much needed student accommodation within Glasgow City Centre. This project will further strengthen our student accommodation portfolio with over 1,300 student beds delivered within central Scotland in recent years.”
