Council set to boost housing options in Fife village

Fife Council is set to expand its housing provision in Coaltown of Wemyss through the proposed purchase of 14 new build houses at the new Castle Park development.

The houses, which include a mix of two and three-bedroom properties, will provide much-needed accommodation for families in the Levenmouth area and support efforts to tackle housing pressures across Fife.

The acquisition from Persimmon Homes has been supported by Scottish Government funding, helping to deliver high-quality homes while offering value for money for the council.

The development forms part of the council’s wider response to the housing emergency and its ongoing Affordable Housing Programme, which aims to increase the supply of housing across Fife.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council’s housing spokesperson, said: “This is a positive step in increasing the supply of good-quality homes in communities where they are needed most.

“By working proactively to bring new properties into our housing stock, we can support families, reduce pressure on temporary accommodation, and help more people find a home that meets their needs.”

Councillors on Fife Council’s Cabinet Committee agreed to progress the deal with Persimmon Homes at their meeting on Thursday.

Once complete, the properties are expected to help up to 30 households through the council’s transfer-led allocations approach, creating opportunities for people to move into suitable housing and freeing up existing houses for others in need.
