Councillors move at bring more affordable housing to Glenrothes

Fife Council’s Glenrothes Area Committee has approved a revised housing plan for the area.

The Glenrothes Area Housing Plan 2024/25 outlines key actions that support the council’s commitment to build new affordable homes.

It also details plans for future council house developments, which for the next year include 46 new builds:

  • 20 new homes at the Glenwood Centre in Glenrothes – in partnership with Kingdom Housing Association.
  • 26 new homes at Alexander Road in Glenrothes – in partnership with Lovells

As well as looking forward, Fife Council, in partnership with a number of local housebuilders, has also delivered 59 new council homes across the Glenrothes area during 2024/25, with another 58 currently underway.

Completed developments include 17 new homes at Leven Mill, Glenrothes, in partnership with Miller Homes, and 42 new homes at Westwood Park, Glenrothes, in partnership with Keepmoat Homes.

As well as the above, Kingdom Housing Association has built 44 new homes at Ingrie Farm, Leslie, and is currently building 80 new homes at Westwood Park (phase 2) in Glenrothes. The council also bought five new-build properties in Markinch.

Sites currently under construction include 58 new homes at Viewfield, Glenrothes, in partnership with Robertson, and eight new homes at Queen’s Meadow, Coaltown of Balgonie, in partnership with Easy Living Developments.

These much-needed homes are a mix of cottage flats, houses, bungalows and townhouses, some of which are wheelchair accessible. They have been built to the highest standards, offering energy-efficient, modern living for Fife Council tenants.

Funding for the various developments has come from the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Grant and Fife Council’s Housing Revenue Account capital budget.

Councillor John Beare, convener of the Glenrothes Area Committee, added: “I welcome the plan, which sets out a clear approach for delivering more affordable homes in Glenrothes and meeting housing needs in the years ahead.

“It’s great to see more affordable homes already being built, with even more planned. These new properties make a real difference to local families and individuals who need good quality housing. I’m pleased that this investment is happening in our area and that it supports both the community and the local economy.”

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council’s housing spokesperson, added: “Every new council house built will deliver a warmer, healthier home that helps to improve the wellbeing of our tenants.

“I am delighted we are continuing to deliver our ambitious Affordable Housing Programme in the face of a housing emergency and continuing pressure on our housing services.”
