Lockerbie Ice Rink is a Charitable Trust run by a voluntary committee that has been in existence since 1967, providing curling and skating facilities to the local community and surrounding areas for people of all ages. The aim of the ice rink is to encourage public participation in sport by providing recreational facilities, with the object of improving people’s health and wellbeing.

The ice rink hosts many different clubs/groups some of which they run free of charge for local young people such as a weekly After School curling session and a Mini Rockers session for younger participants. The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association supports the recent facility approved by the committee, which is offering free ice skating to young people under the age of 6 years old over a period of 20 weeks.

Frank Sweeney, group chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Lockerbie Ice Rink and providing free ice skating for the youngsters. The Association recognises the benefits of having such a fantastic facility in the area and the positive affect it can have on the people who live there.”

The funding for Lockerbie Ice Rink came from the Association’s ‘Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund’ which operates throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
