Elaine Lister, director of Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association has retired after 35 years working in the social housing sector.

Ms Lister started her career with Scottish Homes in Castlemilk as a housing officer and says she was privileged to have Sarah Webb as her mentor who instilled her a genuine commitment to delivering the best outcomes for tenants and their communities.

This ethos was one that inspired her throughout her career as she moved from housing officer at Ardenglen HA to housing & maintenance manager and then assistant chief executive at Wishaw & District and into her current role as director.

During her time with Rutherglen and Cambuslang she built on all the hard work and success that had been achieved by the Association in the last 45 years and is proud of what the staff and Board members achieved.

Of her decision to retire, Elaine Lister said: “It was not an easy decision as watching the difference locally controlled associations like Rutherglen and Cambuslang and the previous organisations I worked with can make to people’s lives has been a privilege.

“I have also worked with some amazing people and, even after 35 years, I am impressed still by the commitment and dedication of staff and voluntary members.

“I hope I have contributed to the ongoing success of Rutherglen & Cambuslang HA and I wish everyone connected to it all the very best wished for the future.”

The chair of the board, Frances Cunningham, commented: “On behalf of Rutherglen & Cambuslang Board I would like to take this opportunity to thank Elaine for the hard work and commitment she has given RCHA since joining us in 2020.

“She leaves behind a solid legacy with a strong team and robust foundation for Rutherglen & Cambuslang’s future. The Board and I are proud of what she has achieved and thank Elaine for her role in leading RCHA for the last five years.

“We are obviously very sorry to see Elaine go, but we all wish her a very happy and long retirement and hope that she enjoys accomplishing everything on her bucket list.”

The incoming director Angela Spense, added: “Elaine and I have worked together for several years and I wish her all the very best for the future in her retirement.”
