North-east charity Aberdeen Cyrenians is asking people to take part in The Big Give, Christmas Challenge 2022, which will match and multiply donations for the week of the 29th November - 6th December.

Aberdeen Cyrenians supports people affected by crisis and poverty such as homelessness, abuse, addiction, and other forms of social exclusion in the North-East of Scotland. The charity is asking for people to donate over the week of the Christmas Challenge so that donations can be doubled to make an even greater impact for those who need it the most.

Chris Bennett-Taylor, chief executive, said: “We are delighted to once again be taking part in The Big Give Christmas challenge this year.

“Thanks to all the support we received from the community last year we managed to raise an incredible £12,335 including our match funding and gift aid!

“Because of this generosity we have been able to continue providing practical and mental wellbeing support, specialist housing and wrap around support for those affected by domestic abuse, LGBTQ+ discrimination, criminal justice, alcohol and drug addiction, and mental health challenges.”

He added: “The challenges of the cost-of-living crisis is affecting so many people in Aberdeen. We are seeing an exponential increase in demand for our services, with many people approaching us for the first time. Anyone and everyone can be affected by crisis.”

“The festive period is a time for celebration and joy, but for many the threat of crisis is very real. The Big Give Christmas Challenge is a chance for people to see their donation make twice the impact.

“For the past three years we have faced the Covid pandemic, now we are facing a cost-of-living crisis. Together real change can be made.”

The Reed Foundation, Aberdeen Cyrenians Big Give Champion, added: “Aberdeen Cyrenians does incredible work supporting people faced by crisis, which is why we have chosen to champion them this year.

“We believe in the importance of giving back to the communities we work with and encourage everyone to donate, no matter how big or small. Your donation will make real impact by being doubled this Christmas.”

The Big Give, Christmas Challenge kicks off on ‘Giving Tuesday’, a Global Day of Giving and is a great time for people to take part and come together to do something special this Christmas.

Chris Bennett-Taylor continued: “We would like to thank everyone for their support so far, especially our match funders generously supporting the campaign, and to those already waiting to donate to The Big Give, Christmas Challenge.”

The Big Give, Christmas Challenge begins at noon on 29th November, ending noon 6th December, and donations can be made here.
