A trail-blazing and inspirational initiative to launch the working lives of young people has taken centre stage at Elderpark Housing.
The housing association played host to a celebratory event to mark the achievements of young people participating in the Working Rite initiative.
Working Rite is a much-admired and well-known charity which matches young people with local businesses, provides hands-on work-based learning, and offers long-term mentorship.
Admirably, it has forged strong links with housing associations including Elderpark and taps into the deep-rooted local connections in communities that housing providers have.
The celebration event - which marked the achievements of young people across the southside of Glasgow - heard from individuals helped by Working Rite.
Certificates were awarded across the three areas of Working Rite’s three inspiring programmes namely:
- Choices which helps young people explore career options and plan what comes next after school.
- Chances which provides practical work placements, volunteering, and vocational training to build real-world skills.
- Connections which matches individuals with mentors for up to a year to offer guidance during the early stages of employment.
Jonathan Giddings-Reid, community regeneration officer at Elderpark, said: “The achievements of Working Rite in changing lives and supporting young people speak for themselves.
“It does vital work in plotting pathways into rewarding careers and Elderpark is proud to be playing our part while placing great value on our long association with Working Rite.”
Graham Robertson, CEO of Working Rite, said: “Partnerships like the one we have with Elderpark Housing Association are the foundation for all the work we do help create change that works for our young people. It was an absolute pleasure to hear the stories and progress our young people are making through our Choices, Chances and Connections programmes.
“Thanks to all at Elderpark for hosting and supporting this important celebration and milestone for all our young people.”
