Elderpark tenants tuck in at community Burns Supper

Elderpark Housing held a hugely-successful Burns Supper last night which brought the community together to celebrate the Bard.

It was the seventh year Elderpark laid on the supper for its tenants who described the occasion as “magnificent”.

The event took the form of a traditional celebration of Burns with the star attraction of the haggis being piped in while staff performed the much-anticipated recitals.

Guests were welcomed by deputy chief executive Shirley McKnight while estates management inspector Jim Fraser performed an outstanding Address to the Haggis.

Finance and corporate services manager James McGeough brilliantly delivered a humorous Toast to the Lassies – the traditional Burns Supper opportunity to praise women in society.

Following the meal complete with neeps and tatties, the evening was rounded off with some live entertainment and dancing.

Elderpark chief executive Gary Dalziel, who also attended, praised the organisation of the event led by housing officer Lynn Reid.

Gary Dalziel said: “Celebrating Burns Night is an important occasion for the community we serve and something we all look forward to each year. I want to thank Lynn and the team for their exceptional organisation and hard work to make it a night to remember.”

Lynn Reid added: “We hope everyone enjoyed themselves in what is our seventh Elderpark Burns Supper. Elderpark recognises the important of companionship and togetherness – especially for some of our more isolated or vulnerable tenants – and we hope the Burns Supper was enjoyed by them all.”

Local resident Ann Leckie said: “It was magnificent. I had a great time and we are very grateful to Elderpark Housing for organising the Burns Supper again this year. I was even up dancing.”

Elderpark extended its thanks to young people from the charity Aberlour who served the meals and took such good care of those attending.
