Feedback sought on crucial phase of Stirling’s new Local Development Plan consultation
Residents, community groups and other key stakeholders are being asked for their feedback on another key part of Stirling’s Local Development Plan (LDP) as it continues to take shape.
This part of the consultation will gather people’s views on the plan’s spatial strategy and the site options that are currently being considered for inclusion.
The spatial strategy will dictate where and how growth, development and land-use change will happen in the Stirling Council area (except Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park), directing investment and housing to the most appropriate locations.
The site options shown in this round of the consultation come from two places:
- Sites submitted by landowners and developers during the Call for Sites, which ran from August to October 2025.
- Sites already identified for development in the current Stirling Local Development Plan that have not yet started and therefore need to be reassessed to decide whether they should be included in the next plan.
Stirling Council leader, Councillor Susan McGill, said: “The new Local Development Plan will guide how your community and the wider Stirling area looks in the future so it will impact everyone who lives, works and visits here.
“The site options part of this consultation is particularly crucial as it will enable residents, community groups and other stakeholders to have their say on how and where new housing, jobs and infrastructure developments happen in the coming years.
“Participating in the surveys will give a voice to the needs and aspirations of your local area and help shape a plan that delivers thriving communities and sustainable growth for all of Stirling – so please take part before the deadline of 23 July.”
A number of drop-in events have been arranged to support this part of the consultation:
- Strathblane – Wednesday 20 May (1-6pm) in Edmonstone Hall

Further drop-in events are planned to take place during June in the following areas: Balfron, Bannockburn, Doune/Deanston, Dunblane, Killearn, Stirling, Thornhill, and Throsk. Dates, times, and venues for these events will be confirmed and published on the Engage Stirling website.
Following this stage of the consultation, stage 1 of the site assessment process will be undertaken (using an approved methodology) to select sites for inclusion in the proposed plan and to discount those considered unsuitable.
Sites with potential will progress to more detailed assessment at Stages 2 and 3, including consideration of alignment with the emerging Proposed Plan and impacts on key infrastructure.
Preferred sites will then be identified for inclusion in the Proposed Plan, which will be prepared for public consultation, anticipated in early 2027, subject to approval by the council’s elected members.
Once completed and approved, the next Local Development Plan will set out where development should and should not take place across Stirling, identify important places and assets that require protection and include local planning policies to guide decisions on future planning applications
The new LDP will support and guide change and development within the Stirling Council area (with the exception of the area covered by Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Planning Authority). The council intends to adopt its new LDP in December 2027.
