Fife Housing Group host successful second 'Senior Sessions' event for over 65s in Kirkcaldy

Fife Housing Group’s second ‘Senior Sessions’ took place last week with a fun-filled event in Templehall, Kirkcaldy.

These events are aimed at tenants and local residents over the age of 65 and provide an enjoyable afternoon out, combining entertainment with practical advice, support and giveaways to help during the cost of living crisis.

The Senior Sessions are also a good way to address some of the loneliness and isolation some of this particular group can face.

Forty-one guests were treated to an afternoon tea, provided by A Tasteful Occasion, while local partner agencies, including Cosy Kingdom, Alzheimer Scotland, HSBC, Linton Lane Centre and Fife Elderly Forum, were on hand to offer advice and support.

Thanks to very generous donations from Intona and the Russell Trust, there were plenty of free goodies up for grabs with guests each taking away a meal kit and a brand-new pair of slippers to help prevent slips and trips. There were also plenty of prizes on offer, most aimed at helping with the effect of the cost of living crisis.

The fun continued throughout the afternoon, with chair yoga, bingo, quizzes, manicures and the opportunity to chat with partner agencies, Fife Housing Group colleagues and other guests.

The event organiser, Helen Miller, engagement officer at Fife Housing Group, commented: “Our second Senior Sessions event was a huge success. It was incredibly heartwarming to see our tenants in Kirkcaldy come together and enjoy all of the activities and treats on offer. It also allowed us to chat with people about any challenges they were facing and identify practical ways to help as an organisation.”

During the previous two years, Covid-19 has limited Fife Housing Group’s ability to provide regular engagement activities. However, this event demonstrated the importance of bringing communities together, enabling all involved to play a part in supporting each other.

Due to the success of these two events, Fife Housing Group are planning to make their Senior Sessions a regular fixture in their engagement calendar.

Fife Housing Group would like to thank all local agencies and organisations who supported this event, making it a success for all to enjoy. It would also like to thank A Tasteful Occasion, Fife Elderly Forum, Linton Lane Centre, Cosy Kingdom, HSBC, Next, Alzheimer Scotland, Baynes, Intona, the Russell Trust, Oswald House and Breathe Yoga.
