Fife Housing Group supports 16–24s to prepare for their first home

Participants of Fife Housing Group’s 'Manage Your Home' workshops receive tablets after completing sessions designed to build confidence in managing their first home

Fife Housing Group has been supporting young people across Fife to build the skills and confidence needed to manage their first home, through a series of interactive youth workshops.

The workshops, designed for young people aged 16 to 24, focused on the key things they need to know when moving into their first home. Topics included managing money, budgeting, paying bills, understanding housing choices and knowing where to go for help and support.

There was strong interest in the sessions, with young tenants signing up themselves as well as through referrals from partner organisations, including Fife College and Barnardo’s. The workshops brought together a diverse group of young people from across Fife, creating a supportive and engaging learning environment.

In addition to gaining valuable knowledge, attendees who completed both workshops also received a free tablet. The devices will support participants with learning, employment and job searching, while the workshops themselves also provide a useful addition to their CV.

The sessions were delivered in partnership with Frontline Fife, who hosted and facilitated the workshops at Fife Housing Group’s office.

Helen Miller, engagement officer at Fife Housing Group, said: “Moving into your first home is a big step that can feel very overwhelming.

“These workshops were all about giving young people the information and confidence they need to manage their home and feel more independent. It’s been great to see such a positive response and to work alongside partners to support young people across Fife to take that next step.”
