Fifty new homes in Colinsburgh approved by Fife Council

Proposals to deliver 50 new family homes in Colinsburgh have been approved by Fife Council.

The plans, brought forward by developer Kirkwood Homes, in partnership with Balcarres Estate, were unanimously approved by councillors at a meeting of Fife Council’s North East Planning Committee on Wednesday afternoon.

The application, which was recommended for approval by council planners, will see the construction of 50 new high-quality homes, 15 of which will be affordable, on land south of Main Street in Colinsburgh.

Following extensive dialogue with Fife Council, the final proposals approved include a second vehicular access point on Mayfield Terrace aimed at improving road safety by calming traffic speeds and prioritising active travel access.

The plans also include an extension of the existing play park and open landscape spaces to the south of the site.

Dialogue is ongoing with Kingdom Housing in respect of the delivery of the affordable housing element of the development.

Allan Rae, land director at Kirkwood Homes, said: “We are thrilled that Fife Council’s North East Planning Committee has unanimously approved our application for our new residential development in Colinsburgh.

“This decision comes after extensive dialogue with Fife Council and nearly two years of consultation with the local community, and we are delighted to receive approval for a multimillion-pound development that will help sustain Colinsburgh for years to come.”

“This approval is a significant milestone in our strategy to invest in further sites in the Fife region. We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders as we move ahead with construction and completion of the scheme.”

Anthony Crawford from Balcarres Estate, added: “We welcome the planning approval and note that this has come about as a result of a lot of hard work by the Kirkwood team, working closely with community stakeholders and the planning team at Fife Council.

“We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Kirkwood to deliver a quality development that will provide a lasting legacy for Colinsburgh.”

Subject to a Section 75 agreement being concluded, it is anticipated that Kirkwood Homes will be on site in early summer 2024 with residents occupying their new homes in early 2025.
