Former Aberdeen Exhibition Centre site to be transformed into 332 new homes

Persimmon Homes North Scotland has secured planning approval from Aberdeen City Council to transform the former Aberdeen Exhibition Centre site into a vibrant new community, delivering 332 much-needed homes alongside significant investment in local infrastructure, employment, and community facilities.

The development will provide a mix of high-quality, energy-efficient homes, including 83 affordable properties transferred to a local housing association, supporting families in housing need and helping more people onto the property ladder.

Homes will feature sustainable technologies, including solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, reducing carbon emissions and helping lower household energy bills.

In addition to new homes, the scheme will deliver substantial community benefits, including a new play area, landscaped open spaces, and a trim trail through the eastern woodland.

Transport improvements include upgrades to Ellon Road, a widened cycling path, and enhancements to the existing pedestrian crossing. The development will also fund a new 3G football pitch at the Alex Collie Sports Centre in Bridge of Don.

The construction of the development is expected to generate over 100 local jobs and provide new apprenticeship opportunities, supporting skills development and boosting the local economy.

James MacKay, managing director of Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to secure planning approval for this landmark site in Aberdeen, which will transform a derelict brownfield area into a thriving new community of 332 homes.

“Our plans will deliver energy-efficient, high-quality homes, alongside major investment in local infrastructure, and local jobs.

“With 83 affordable homes included in the scheme, we’re proud to support families and contribute to sustainable growth in Aberdeen.”
