Glasgow’s student accommodation trend continues with Osborne Street bid
A developer has submitted an application regarding its plans to deliver student accommodation in Glasgow city centre.
Working with architect TP Bennett, Dominus aims to bring life to the junction of Old Wynd Street and Osborne Street.
A design document submitted with their proposal states: “The proposed development will create transformational change to this cleared brownfield site and contribute towards a vibrant evolving city quarter.
“It will provide high quality student accommodation totalling 211 rooms with an outward-facing amenity space at ground and first floor to create active frontages and a vibrant sense of place along Old Wynd and Osborne Street.”
Planning permission was granted for a 12-storey hotel on the site in 2019, but the developers state: “Since then, the emerging context around the site has undergone substantial evolution, with a number of major schemes, including the King Street development to the south, due to come forward.
“The proposal for student accommodation has followed a reconsideration of the appropriateness of the previous scheme in light of the changes to the surrounding context, as well as Glasgow’s socio-economic repositioning.”
Plans for student accommodation on the opposite corner at Old Wynd were approved in November, while work is underway on student residences at nearby Jocelyn Street.
