Govan community comes together for day of fun on Hallowe’en
It was a truly frightening display of fun when Govan’s three housing associations teamed up to offer a Hallowe’en treat for the community.
Elderpark, Linthouse and Govan housing associations staged a Hallowe’en event at Govan’s historic cultural and community venue, the Pearce Institute.
A huge turnout of local children with their families helped make the day a spooky success and was the ideal curtain raiser for going out ‘guising’ later in the evening.

Candy floss, ‘dooking’ for apples, games, free food and impressive costumes helped make the day a stunning success.
The day was put together by “GEL”, which stands for the Govan, Elderpark and Linthouse partnership – a coalition from the three main housing providers in Govan with the aim of promoting community cohesion.
Like all housing providers, all three are actively involved in community regeneration in their own right in the Govan communities where their tenants live.
A spokesperson for GEL said: “Judging by the number of families who came along it was extremely popular and set the scene for a day of Hallowe’en fun in the heart of Govan. The costumes were deeply impressive, ranging from witches to a miniature Count Dracula complete with black cape and fangs. We hope everyone had a great time.”
The venue – known locally as the “PI” - is a much loved community asset and dates from 1906. It is one of the most impressive buildings in Govan with its central location close to Govan Cross. It is celebrating its 120th birthday this year.
Govan, Linthouse and Elderpark extended thier thanks to the Pearce Institute for its support of the event and also to the Govan Weavers Society, which contributed to its success by donating the delicious food available to those who attended.
