Govan Housing Group is preparing to celebrate Scottish Housing Day 2025 on 17 September, which carries the theme “Everybody Needs Good Neighbours”, by publishing the results of its recent community survey in Govan.
The survey, carried out during the summer of 2025 with responses from 283 local people, shows that residents feel a strong sense of belonging and pride in their community, with high levels of satisfaction in identity and neighbourliness. Most respondents also highlighted positive social connections and supportive networks in the area.
At the same time, the survey points to important challenges for the community, particularly around jobs, housing, facilities and opportunities for residents to influence decisions.
These findings will help shape the organisation’s upcoming Community Regeneration Strategy, which will set out key priorities and actions that the Govan Housing Group will take as part of its contribution to Govan’s regeneration journey.

Jamie Mallan, director of community enterprises at Govan Housing Group, said: “The results tell us that Govan is a place with strong community spirit and a real sense of identity. People value their neighbours and the support they find locally, and that’s something to be proud of. But we’ve also heard clearly where people want to see change, particularly around housing, jobs and local services. We will use these findings to inform our Community Regeneration Strategy and come back to the community with clear actions in six months’ time.”
Maxine Hendry, community engagement officer, said: “As Community Engagement Officer, my role was to gather a wide range of views from residents, tenants, businesses, and stakeholders across Govan. What stood out most was the genuine enthusiasm from local people – they weren’t just willing to contribute, they were eager to shape the future of their community. These conversations weren’t just informative; they were deeply inspiring. People spoke with pride, hope, and a clear vision for regeneration. It’s been a privilege to witness how invested Govan’s community is in creating positive change, and this initiative has truly shown how powerful local voices can be when given the space to lead.
Scottish Housing Day is an opportunity for housing organisations across the country to celebrate the difference good housing and strong communities make. Govan Housing Group believes that the strength of local pride and neighbourliness provides a powerful foundation for the area’s future regeneration.
