South Lanarkshire Council has approved plans for almost 50 new council homes in Hamilton.

The development will see a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom homes including semi-detached, terraced and flatted properties. The homes will be built on Highstonehall Road, close to Kennedies Farm.

The proposal for a total of 48 new homes was given the go-ahead at a recent meeting of the council’s planning committee.

Chair of the committee, Councillor Isobel Dorman, said: “These new homes are fantastic news for the local community who will be able to benefit from a variety of properties.

“It is wonderful to see more much-needed affordable homes created.”

Chair of the council’s housing and technical resources committee, Councillor Josh Wilson, added: “We are delighted that planning approval has been granted for the development of 48 affordable homes in Hamilton.

“These new homes are a welcome addition to the sites on Meikle Earnock Road and Highstonehall Road which will also form part of the Hamilton Community Growth Area.

“South Lanarkshire Council is committed to delivering its target of 1000 additional homes by 2021, and this development contributes to our aim to improve the availability, quality and access of housing across South Lanarkshire.

“The council will continue to work with our Registered Social Landlord Partners and the Scottish Government to provide good quality, affordable and energy-efficient homes in the right places.”
